Leading healthcare company Mako Medical Laboratories recently launched its phlebotomy program accredited by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. The program aims to train and equip aspiring phlebotomists with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their profession. Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood from a patient for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
It is essential to modern health care, as blood tests help doctors diagnose and monitor various medical conditions. Phlebotomists are trained healthcare professionals who specialize in this service. They work in multiple settings, including hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
Chad Price, the CEO of Mako Medical, said, “We’re pleased by the success of our phlebotomist training program and are excited to be expanding the school.” The ASPT-accredited phlebotomy program offered by Mako Medical is a comprehensive training program that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of phlebotomy. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the ASPT certification exam. The program includes classroom lectures, hands-on training, and clinical rotations. Upon completing the program, graduates are eligible to take the ASPT certification exam and become certified phlebotomy technicians.
The new phlebotomy training is offered through Mako University, or Mako U, a benefit provided to employees at no charge to Mako team members. Students must attend two four-hour virtual classes every week and complete online assignments. After a month of study, hands-on training begins with mannequins and then with actual people. Before taking the certification test, students have to conduct 25 successful draws, then an additional 75 during clinical rotation. They must then pass a written test and a practical blood draw simulation.
Phlebotomy is critical in health care, and skilled phlebotomists are in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 17% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for many occupations. This demand is due to the increasing number of people accessing health care services and the growing importance of diagnostic tests in health care.
In addition to being a rewarding and fulfilling career, phlebotomy plays a crucial role in patient care. A phlebotomist’s ability to draw blood efficiently and accurately can impact a patient’s diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Patients may feel anxious or apprehensive about having their blood drawn, and a skilled phlebotomist can help alleviate their fears and make the process less stressful.
Mako Medical’s phlebotomy program is open to anyone who meets the eligibility requirements. Applicants must be at least 18 and have a high school diploma or equivalent. The program is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in health care or looking to enhance their skills in the field. The program is also suitable for those with prior healthcare experience who want to specialize in phlebotomy.
“We care deeply about the needs and wants of our team, and we are excited to be able to offer phlebotomy certifications as yet another career growth opportunity within Mako,” said Josh Arant, Mako COO. “While we are launching this exciting program internally, we hope to offer the program for individuals outside Mako at the beginning of 2023.” In addition to the phlebotomy program, Mako Medical offers various healthcare services, including laboratory testing, COVID-19 testing, and clinical research. The company’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services has earned it a reputation as a trusted partner for healthcare providers.
